Donald E. Workman
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Workman. He was accepted as an Air Cadet in November, 1940; took Primary training at Spartan Field, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Basic training at Randolph Field and Advanced at Brooks Field, San Antonio, Texas. Received wings and commission July, 1941; was stationed at March Field, Riverside, California before being sent overseas. Sailed for Australia eleven days after Pearl Harbor. He and thirty-one other pilots were reported missing enroute to Java, following the sinking of the Langley. He was a Pursuit Pilot. It is definitely known that the Army pilots and the mechanics were transferred to the destroyer Edsall, but the government has been unable to ascertain what happened as nothing further was ever heard from the Edsall.
