Son of Mr. and Mrs. J.V. Gooden, Sr. Born April 29, 1929. Enlisted April 29, 1944 in Marine Reserve. Discharged from Marine Reserve September 13, 1944. Re-enlisting same day in Regular Marine Corps. Called to active service December 15, 1944, being sent to Parris Island, South Carolina; New River Camp, Lejuene, South Carolina; and Oceanside, California, where he was sent to Pacific Area April 1945. Was in Guam, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and China. Discharged May 2, 1947 at Great Lakes, Illinois as Corporal.
