Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lenord Boyd. Enlisted in the Illinois National Guard in September 1940. On January 2, 1941, he was sent to Camp Livingston, Louisiana. After about a year he was transferred to Fort Riley, Kansas where he graduated from the Mechanized Cavalry School January 31, 1942, and shortly afterward was returned to Camp Livingston. He was promoted to Sergeant in July 1943, and a few weeks later was sent to North Camp Hood, Texas, being in the 106th Cavalry Tank Destroyer Unit. He sailed for overseas duty in February 1944 landing in Scotland. He was in the 121st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, attached to the 106th Cavalry Group, attached to the XVth Corps of General Patch's 7th Army. He took part in the bitter battle of Alsace. He was killed in action March 28 in Germany. Buried at Ob-Kelin.
