Elmer E. Miner
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Miner. Entered service October 14, 1942 at Peoria, Illinois. Served with 96th Division receiving basic training at Camp Adair, Oregon; Advanced training at Fort Lewis, Wash; Camp White, Oregon; and Camp Callan, California. Date of Embarkation: July 20, 1944, Camp Stoneman, Calf. Served in Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operation for eleven months as a machine gunner. Campaigns: Leyte and Okinawa. Was wounded in action on Okinawa on May 20, 1945 from which sustained a severed left shoulder wound resulting in a permanent handicap to the use of shoulder and arm. Returned to U.S. June 20, 1945. Awarded Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. Discharged July 6, 1947 from Percy Jones General Hospital, Fort Custer, Battle Creek, Michigan as Corporal.
