Son of Mr. and Mrs. P.O. Watts. Entered service April 19, 1943. Sent to Scott Field, Illinois: Received basic training at Kessler Field, Mississippi; Armament School at Lowry Field, Denver, Colorado; Gunnery School at Las Vegas, Nevada. Then to Salt Lake City, Utah for assignment. Received overseas training at Dyerburg, Tennessee. Then to Kearney, Nebraska, to pick up Airplane to fly across. Left for overseas May 1, 1944. arrived May 6, 1944, Prestwick, Scotland. Shot down June 20, 1944. Magdeburg, Germany, captured and taken to prison four days later at Stalag-Luft4 near Stettin. Released May 2, 1945. Discharged October 26, 1945. Returned to New York June 20, 1945. Rank: Staff Sergeant. Earned Air Medal, One Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart. Good Conduct Medal. European Theatre Ribbon, 4 Battle Stars Presidential Citation with One Oak Leaf Cluster.
