Grandson of D.M. Stewart. Entered service January 16, 1941. Served 18 months in Medical Department and 15 months in Glider Pilots. Then went to Gunnery School and was assigned to A-20 Crew. Left U.S.A. October 21, 1944. Arrived at Naples, Italy, November 17, 1944. Flew 40 Missions overseas, over Northern Italy, Poe Valley, and Alps Mountains. Left Leghorn, Italy June 26, 1945, arrived at New York Harbor June 12, 1945. Received Good Conduct and Air Medal, Two Oak Leaf Clusters, American Defense Service and EAME Theatre Ribbons; Two Battle Stars. Discharged August 28, 1945 from Fort Sheridan, Illinois as Staff Sergeant.
