Howard E. Deatherage
Son of Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Deatherage. Entered service August 6, 1940 at St. Louis, Great Lakes, Aboard USS Nashville until January 1942. On July 7, 1941 taken 1st Marines to Iceland then transferred to USS Chipopee. In August 1943, placed on LTS being sent to Pacific for Invasion of Tarawa, to Pearl Harbor, to Marshall Islands Invasion on January 30, 1944. New Guinea Invasion of Atiape and Humbolt Bay. Returned to states July 1944. Received Amphibious training at Camp Bradford. On November 26, 1944, left for Okinawa Invasion, Pearl Harbor January 5, 1946. Returned to states August 11, 1946 aboard USS Mona Island where he is still serving. Re-enlisted June 1946. Rank: Chief Gunner's Mate.
